Ebony Philips, DSN, RN
On March 14th, 2014, I did an interview with Ebony Philips (nurse at Mercy Hospital) to find out some extra details on how to keep an unborn child safe and out of harms way during a pregnancy. She educated me on things that a mother should avoid during her pregnancy. " Antibiotics, Narcotics and Opioid are some of the main stimulants that a mother would want to avoid during her pregnancy. These teratogens could cause major disruptions during the birth and could potentially cause fatal outcomes during labor." As I was talking to Ebony she gave me a list of stress related problems that could happen during a pregnancy. " Too much stress could bring various problems such as an increase in heart rate, increase in the baby's heart rate and early labor." I knew that when a baby is born that it needs to be brought up in a stable home with loving parents, but the environment needs to be took into concern early before that baby is born. "Stay away from anything that can effect the baby. Anything that you take in, the baby is also receiving. Even when the baby comes out and you have to breast feed, stay alert on which medications you take. When you're breast feeding, the medication is also going into the baby." Doing this interview helped me go into detail on what i was doing my report on and how i could help future mothers protect their baby.

Melanie S. Grant
On April 9th, 2014 I did and interview with Melody Grant (Administrative Assistant at Charlotte Dermatology) to find out what can happen to a mother and the fetus physically during her pregnancy. I asked her questions on what effects could come from a mother that drinks and smokes during her pregnancy. Melanie had informed me that the mothers skin is most affected when the mother is going through a lot of stressful situations. the mother's skin will tend to break-out and can suffer from hair loss.
